• 2016 - Céline Bureau is founded by Terrance Richard and Hugo Dufour in a Mile End garage in Montreal.
  
  
• 2017 - Céline Bureau hosts her 16 first residents from everywhere in North America and is invited to showcase at the POP Montreal festival.
  
  
• 2018 - On top of her normal residency programming, Céline hosts a special sound-art residency, and opens her doors to the public for the first time for a residency exhibition and gives her first public workshop, this time about recording techniques for artists. Céline Bureau becomes the official curator for Art POP at POP Montreal.
  
  
• 2019 – The residency exhibitions become a tradition. Building bridges between the francophone and anglophone artist communities of Montréal becomes part of the residency's mission.
  
  
• 2020 – During the COVID-19 pandemic, Céline Bureau produces a series of online workshops in partnership with POP Montreal about racism and healing, latinx poetry, stage and drag makeup, and performing from home. Launch of the curatorial residency program.
  
  
• 2021 – Céline Bureau creates a grantwriting workshop series, a book club, and a critique club, which complete the residency's programming.
  
  
• 2022 – Céline Bureau's programming keeps evolving with the addition of a arts writing residency made in partnership with revue Cigale. This year's curatorial residency brought together Colombian and local artists, and partnerships with the Suoni Per Il Popolo and Lots of Love performance festivals expanded the residency's reach outside of its garage.  Céline also produced Olga Abeleva's performance "Searching for Splenda" at Sala Rosa.

Mission

Céline Bureau’s mission is to foster exchange and build relationships between local, national and international artists of different ages, backgrounds, mediums, and identities. We encourage collaboration, experimentation, conversation, critique, flexibility and work-in-process.

Mandate

Céline Bureau’s mandate is to provide a shared workspace (both physical and online) to research and develop ideas and/or practices and to be a collaborative network amongst artists. The residency is open to all self-identifying artists, writers and curators (visual, literary, curatorial, theatre, dance, performance, film, new media, organizational, etc.), with an active professional practice, irrespective of age or nationality. There is no expectation or mandate to produce any work during a Céline Bureau residency.

Céline Bureau is a contributing member of the network of artist-run centres in Quebec and Canada, and helps to preserve the arts community in our neighbourhood of the Mile End. Céline Bureau promotes cultural exchange through events catered to both artists and the larger community.
