Alex Apostolidis
Throughout their practice, Alex explores notions of gender and sexuality and the way they relate to capitalism through media, status quos, and interpersonal dynamics. Their recent practice has been interested in the notion of reimagining television as a space for queer DIY communal creation and diffusion. This research has resulted in making episodic video art in the works “The Future of Television”, “I Want My LGBTV" and their upcoming project “HOME TV I”.
Faced with how the media representation of masculinity and its effect on the dynamics with gender and domesticity evolved, Alex brings back the aesthetics of broadcast television, but with queer people as the dominant stars and characters to rewrite and highlight experiences that were previously shunned and are currently under threat.
