Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott

Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and arts worker from Quebec (QC). She graduated with a BFA (Print Media) from Concordia University in 2018 and an MFA from NSCAD University in 2020. Her performances reflect on the value of the artist’s work, perceptions of productivity and where life and art meet. She is interested in the intersections between labor, gender and class dynamics. Her performances and text-based works have been shown in artist-run centers and galleries across Canada.

For this residency with Celine Bureau, I want to initiate a project I started to develop in the fall as a part of a curatorial mentorship program, with the current title Working Conditions. The idea for this work comes from my own experience both as an artist and arts administrator; it addresses the precarious working conditions and the challenges of maintaining an art practice when working within the arts milieu. I want to do a series of interviews with other artists to develop a subjective survey of the current conditions in the Montréal art scene. I envision the interviews being edited and included in a publication/artist book that is a first step for a larger, more ambitious curatorial project I want to develop beyond the scope of the residency. Please participate to the artwork!
