House of Tupamaras

House of Tupamaras is an interdisciplinary collective dedicated to the practice, circulation, and management of the Ballroom and Voguing culture in Colombia. We generate safe meeting spaces for the free development of the body and gender. Taking elements from dance, performance and the visual arts, we develop scenic pieces that question the differences or similarities between contemporary art and the “spectacle”, by presenting projects in conventional scenarios and unusual spaces and letting the live arts circulate. House of Tupamaras explores what is generally cataloged as “Mariconeo y Pluma*”, terms that have been reclaimed to celebrate expressions of effeminate gestures, movements and individuals, which are often stigmatized and excluded in public places. House of Tupamaras is interested in video performances, live acts and the nightlife as a place of construction of knowledge and meeting between different groups, specially the LGBTIQ community.
