Céline Bureau - Board of Directors

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD 

A Board’s primary role is to provide oversight. The Céline Bureau Board of Directors is a working Board meaning that they help create the strategic goals and plans for our organization, make hiring decisions, and guide Céline’s annual budget and financial management. Board members are volunteers and therefore cannot be financially compensated for their work while on the Board. Commitments of individual board members include:

  • 5-7 hours of work per month 
  • Attend bimonthly Board meetings
  • Join two committees and attend periodic meetings (i.e., Finance, Programming, Policy, Human Resources,  Membership)
  • Attend Céline Bureau events, when possible, and our Annual General Meeting
  • Participate in the development of our mission, mandate and organizational goals
  • Help build partnerships within the community and ensure transparent communication
  • Act as a fiduciary responsibility towards the organization, including fundraising, managing income, and approving and monitoring annual budgets 
  • Support staff in drafting policies and protocols

 

RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE BOARD TREASURER

The Treasurer is in charge of the financial oversight of Céline Bureau, and is responsible for: 

  • Supporting the co-directors in maintaining complete and accurate records of the accounts and financial transactions
  • Supporting the co-directors in providing all required financial reports and returns to the appropriate provincial and federal ministries
  • Reporting to each regular meeting of the Board, and to the Annual General Meeting on the organization’s financial status
  • Acting as one of the signing officers for cheques and other documents, such as contracts and grant applications
  • Ensuring a budget is presented to the board prior to the beginning of the fiscal year

 

RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE BOARD PRESIDENT

The President presides as the manager of the Board’s activities, and is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the Board follows its own rules and those imposed upon it by statute or regulation
  • Assisting the co-directors to set the agenda for Board meetings 
  • Ensuring that the Board is properly informed about the operations of Céline and has the necessary information to come to decisions
  • Acting as the Board's primary liaison with the co-directors
  • Acting as public and media spokesperson for Céline Bureau when required
  • Acting as one of the signing officers for cheques and other documents, such as contracts and grant applications
  • Conducting an annual employee review

 

RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE BOARD VICE PRESIDENT

The Vice President acts in absence of the President to ensure that the Board is never without leadership, and is responsible for:

  • Assisting the co-directors to set the agenda for Board meetings in absence of the President
  • Acting as public and media spokesperson for Céline Bureau when required
  • Assisting with the Board President responsibilities when required
  • Acting as a Board liaison with the co-directors
